The Gallery - New - Rubber Gloves

rubber gloves

The theme for this week's Gallery is 'new' and the photo above shows my new rubber gloves. Not any run of the mill rubber gloves, mind you. These were given to me last night as a gift from the director of our local production of Acorn Antiques, The Musical.

For those of you who didn't catch my previous post, I've been fortunate enough to land the role of the infamous Mrs Overall in this amateur production which will be performed at the South Holland Centre, Spalding, in May. Mrs Overall was played by Julie Walters in the original sketches in Victoria Wood: As Seen On TV and also in the musical version. I have big shoes to fill, or rather, carpet slippers, a pinny, hairnet. and Marigolds.

New gloves for my new role which began last night with our first rehearsal. The script is a joy, the rest of the cast are fantastic and I think the next few months are going to be a blast.

Wish me luck!

  1. Goodness! I had no idea there were 'designer' rubber gloves. Mrs Overall would be VERY jealous!

    1. In the show Mrs O does get to wear a glitzy version of her usual uniform in the finale - still not in the least bit attractive though!

  5. Do you have the dates for the actual performances yet? I could treat my wife to a weekend away and the theatre (at considerably less than West End prices)!

    1. Poor Mrs Troy, could be deprived of a fancy weekend in the capital.

      21 - 25 May!

    1. Calm yourself, Steve.
I refuse to touch anything unsavoury without my hands in my Marigolds (and that's not a line from the show).

    1. I think normal yellow Marigolds should be nice and long like these - good for plunging into the washing up bowl without getting a soggy sleeve.

By the way, I hope all this rehearsing will help with your next job as Bon Jovi's backing singer (no, I have not forgotten!)... xx

  15. Brings back wonderful memories of my student days when I had black washing up rubber gloves with leopard skin and diamantes. Needless to say those beauties did not get used as much as they should have. Good luck with the role - very exciting!

    1. But, Jody, there's so much fun to be had with diamante-studded rubber gloves which doesn't even involve a bowl of dishwater.

  16. I recently recall you getting a pair of rubber gloves by being a top blogger. I am seeing a pattern, a cunning plan to pretend to be a blogger, a starring off-Broadway actress in order to feed a rubber glove fetish.
